Job Summary
Key Responsibilities
o Expertise in Agriculture and Farming: The consultant should have extensive knowledge of agricultural practices, including crop cultivation, livestock management, and organic farming techniques.
o Market Research and Analysis: They should be able to conduct market research to identify the demand for agricultural inputs in the target region. This includes analyzing market trends, pricing, and competition.
o Input Procurement and Supply Chain Management: The consultant should have experience in procuring agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and machinery. They should also possess knowledge of supply chain management to ensure smooth delivery of inputs to FPOs.
o Financial Analysis: Understanding financial aspects related to input business is crucial. The consultant should be able to conduct financial analysis to optimize procurement costs, calculate profit margins, and assess the financial viability of different input business models.
o Business Planning and Strategy: They should assist FPOs in developing business plans and strategies for input supply operations. This includes identifying target markets, building distribution networks, and implementing effective marketing strategies.
o Training and Capacity Building: The consultant should be capable of providing training and capacity building programs for FPO members on various aspects of input supply management, sustainable agriculture practices, and business development.
o Collaboration and Stakeholder Management: It’s crucial for the consultant to collaborate and coordinate with input suppliers, government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to establish partnerships and ensure a conducive business environment for FPOs.
o Monitoring and Evaluation: They should assist in setting up monitoring mechanisms to track the progress of input supply activities, assess the impact of interventions, and make necessary adjustments to achieve desired outcomes.
Thematic and technical support
o To ensure that the project activities are implemented in coordination with other complementary initiatives, bringing synergy and collaboration to ensure optimal resource utilization and enhanced effectiveness of DG initiatives
o To build technical and thematic understanding of the state team as well as the national initiatives of DG through regular sharing of lessons and knowledge from the project
o To support other state-level initiatives as and when required to provide additional support, coordination, and facilitation as a part of the larger state-level program
o To represent DG at district and state level meetings, share lessons learned, build relationships with key stakeholders, and ensure value addition through sharing of information and resources with other initiatives in the state
Team Management
o To monitor, supervise, support and motivate the team involved in project implementation
o To provide administrative support and supervision to direct reports as and when required
o To monitor and guide the data officers/CEOs of FPOs.
Qualifications and Experience
o 6 – 8 years of relevant work experience (preferably working with FPOs & managing input market linkages in the field)
o Experience in dealing with agri-input products/models for FPOs and their farmers.
o Good network ability to connect the FPOs with input linkage ecosystem players.
Skills & Competencies
o Experience working with a diverse team, including across time zones, cultures, English-language ability, and backgrounds
o Willing and able to work in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment and undertake travel
o Understanding of the Agriculture and Extension sector
o Good communication and interpersonal skills
o Ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
o Demonstrates ownership towards the implementation of strategy and channelizes partners’ effort for achieving results
o Demonstrates quality excellence. Guides others to achieve high-quality deliverables
o Displays resourcefulness in overcoming obstacles even in ambiguous or unfavorable situations and is able to guide the partner/extension workers to do the same
